Liang schreibt : "Byron loves freedom above anything else. He seems to have been born a great writer and a lover of Greece... he died in the Greek army fighting for the independence of Greece. He can be regarded as the first great hero among writers. He worte The giaour to encourage the Greek people, but it sounds to us now as if the passage were addressed to China."
